The Kitchen

The kitchen is really well-kitted out and you should find all the facilities you need and more. Electric cooker, freestanding fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, food blender, and cafetiere. The kitchen door leads on to a terrace dining and barbecue area and then up a few steps to the pool.

It’s a cliché but this really is the heart of the house. Right bang in the middle – it offers the most natural access to the pool and garden.

You can easily put the finishing touches to your Coq au Vin in the kitchen while chatting to a friend sunbathing out on the terrace. The layout just works.

And guests always love it when they discover there is a second kitchen just off the main one and everything is doubled up! You’ll find a second dishwasher (just perfect for big parties), a second sink area, and a second full size fridge. This is also home to the laundry station – with washing machine and ironing area.

Dining room

La Bomba features a dining room with seating for 8 and superb antiques including a 19th century marbled console.

Artworks of the Duke of Wellington and Marshal Soult, who led the British and French forces respectively, in the Peninsular Wars can be found on the walls. It’s a historical link to the house as the Armistice ending the Napoleonic War was signed by the opposing commanders on April 17th 1814 just down the road at Narouze and British forces under Wellington were barracked in nearby fields.

It’s also worth noting that there is also dining for 14 in the Grand Salon and for 12 on the garden terrace. The dining room leads off from the kitchen towards the library.

Dining room

features
  • Dining for 8
  • Wellington wing
  • Easy access to kitchen

Grand Salon

The largest room of the house is the magnificent Grand Salon, converted from an original ‘grenier’. Without a doubt it is the most popular room for our guests as it allows everyone to get together with space and in style. It’s played host to children’s parties, wedding discos, table tennis championships and gourmet dinners.

The beamed ceiling is over 30 foot high while the spectacular fireplace is a local Lauragais design. The stonework has all been recently repointed by a local artisan and the floor is an intricate mix of Italian terracotta. There is also dining space for 14.

features
  • Table tennis
  • Wellington wing
  • Dining for up to 14
  • French windows opening out on to front drive

The Library

Though it may not look like in from the photos there are actually some bookshelves in the library! Unfortunately we forgot to take any photos of them. Guests are welcome to read any of the books on the shelves here and after nearly 15 years of lettings we have a pretty decent selection of well-thumbed (if sometimes suntan oil-stained!) volumes on offer.

The library can either be i) a nice quiet spot to write some postcards or ii) a kids’ bolthole for iPads and games. The choice is yours! It is also the gateway to the Soult Wing with an ironwork spiral staircase leading to bedrooms Five and Six.

The Library

features
  • Soult wing
  • Extra reception room
  • Cast iron staircase leading to Beds Five and Six
  • Bookshelves with dozens for volumes for guest use
